How to read this graph: We set the first year (1970) to 100 for each line so you can compare marriage, fertility, and urbanization on one chart. If a line goes above 100, that thing went up over time (e.g. 120 = 20% higher than in 1970). If it goes below 100, it went down. So the numbers aren’t “percent of people”—they’re “how much higher or lower than 1970.”
