Where AI actually gets built, by country. Flip between private investment, patents, and research, filter by field from semiconductors to computer vision, and hover any country for the raw numbers.
Investment is private money into AI companies, in US dollars. It shows where the market is betting.
Patents count AI inventions filed for legal protection. They show where AI is being turned into ownable technology.
Research counts published papers. It shows where the ideas are coming from, often years before the products.
Data: Georgetown CSET Emerging Technology Observatory, Country Activity Tracker (AI). Figures are shown by year (2016 to 2026) or as an all-years total; 2026 is partial.
About this data & its limits
Each company, patent, and paper is assigned to a country, so the map shows where AI activity is based, not every place a company operates. Investment is counted in the country of the company receiving it.
The three measures are not directly comparable. A country can publish a lot of research while attracting little private investment, or file many patents without a large venture market. Read each metric on its own terms.
Regional groups in the source data (the EU, OECD, NATO, and continents) are left off the map, which shows individual countries only. A few very small states have data but are too small to appear at this map scale, they still show up in the Top countries list.
